Artist Bio Magie’s interest in ceramics developed in the late l960’s after taking college classes in ceramics. To acquire more technical skills, she attended Otis Art Institute and found her love for functional pieces made on the potter’s wheel became her passion. Magie had a 25-year career as a dental laboratory owner from 1980-2005. In 2005 Magie retired and resumed her love of clay, concentrating her energy in making functional ware on the wheel. As years passed, she began exploring hand building. She has always been captivated with wildlife and nature. Whether creating sculptures or functional pieces, it becomes instinctive for her to bring the beauty, joy, movement and utility of nature into her work. She often adds ornamentation to functionality and finds mixing the two develops a pleasing flow of co existence. Magie is continually searching for new and exciting techniques to explore. She attends workshops, reads articles in ceramic publications and is enthusiastic about discusses and sharing new methods with other artists. |
