Oil, Fabric Art, Jewelry
Lara Myers has been interested in art since childhood, and always wanted to be a painter. She was born in Indiana, but has lived most of her life in the Rocky Mountains. She currently lives in Powell, Wyoming with her husband and two sons.
Lara received a degree in fine art from Northwest College in 1989. Besides painting and making bears, she works as a graphic artist at Mountain West Screen Printers and Embroidery in Cody, Wyoming.
Laras media of choice is oil paint because of the depth and intensity of color it makes possible. Lara paints a variety of subjects, frequently animals, people or landscapes, but it can be anything visually appealing that calls her. Her intention in each painting is to evoke an emotion in the viewer, through color and light as well as the subject. In that moment, the shared emotion connects the viewer and artist. She has been influenced by painters such as Botticelli and Caravaggio who could paint in such a manner.
Lara also makes artist Teddy Bears from mohair, synthetic and real fur. The unique characters that emerge in her bears also touch people, and make them feel like kids again.
Her work is displayed at the Depot Gallery in Red Lodge, Montana, Cody Country Art League, Jerico Fine Arts Gallery in Cody and True Colors in Powell.
