Montana oil painter Dorci Newman Tremblay was born in 1945 in New York City and grew up in southern Connecticut. "Interestingly, I grew up in a family with an artistic history... My mother worked in Watercolors; my grandfather was a well respected architect in the Boston area and later became known for his Watercolors and pastels. My great aunt was a world class impressionist portrait painter working in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. So when I showed a natural talent, no one was surprised!" Newman Tremblay received her formal academic training at the University of Connecticut School of Fine Arts, earning a bachelor of fine arts in 1967. She also did graduate work in painting at the University of Hartford Art School, and earned her master's degree from Southern Connecticut State College in 1972. After retiring from a 32 year teaching career as an art instructor in Hartford, Dorci began her dream "job" as a full time painter. She works out of her home studio in Red Lodge, Montana, and paints weekly with a group of painters known as The Painted Ladies. During the summer months she and other plein air painters are out and about painting the grand landscapes of the area. This group is known as "The Beartooth Plein Air Society".... Newman Tremblay was instrumental in getting the group started. Dorci works in a painterly, intuitive manner, and is focused on composition, vibrancy of color and its flow of through each of her paintings. She creates a sense of place and mood in her works that she hopes is felt by the viewer. She says," there was never a time in my life that I wasn't an artist, it was and is who I am." Dorci is a member of the Carbon County Arts Guild, the Cody Country Art League, The Billings Art Association, The Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, and The Stillwater Society. Dorci will be the featured artist along with David McMasters at the Depot Gallery for the month if August...and will be a featured artist at the Cody Country Art League the first two weeks of September. Newman Tremblay's "Studio 78" is located on Highway 78, west of Red Lodge. Her gallery is open by appointment. |
