X-WR-CALDESC:This exhibition features a selection of work from the MAM Coll
 ection by printmaker Jason Elliott Clark. In his work\, Clark explores Alg
 onquin legends mixed with personal stories and misinformation about Native
  American Indian culture today.  The works in the exhibition focus mainly 
 on Clark’s early career as a printmaker in the University of Montana’s MFA
  program (2004) and soon after. \n\n'My work is rooted in the traditional 
 teachings and beliefs of my ancestors and the erroneous teachings and beli
 efs of western society about Native Americans. The subjects portrayed in m
 y art are from personal experiences and the legends of my Algonquin herita
 ge. I am also interested in what people are being taught about Native Amer
 icans by western culture through parents\, teachers\, textbooks\, films\, 
 television\, cartoons\, consumer advertisements\, products\, and other tra
 nsmitters of misinformation. My work deals with subjects that I have obser
 ved or experienced firsthand. These are the stories that have shaped and f
 ormed my life. They illustrate how I see the world around me and how I hav
 e learned to respect it. The images and stores in my work are reflections

 tion showcases numerous printmaking techniques including relief\, litho\, 
 monotype\, and screen printing. \n\n\nThis exhibition is sponsored by the

 rants from the Montana Arts Council\, a state agency funded by the State o
 f Montana\; coal severance taxes paid based upon coal mined in Montana and
  deposited in Montana's Cultural and Aesthetic Projects Trust Fund\; and t
 he National Endowment for the Arts.
