Erratic Journey by Leah Cipino
Cupino’s "Erratic Journey", on view February 1-27, 2027, follows the unbelievable miles-long migration of boulders torn from mountainsides by glacial migration during our home planet’s transition into a new age.
In moving picture, silk, fibers, and paint, she calls us to commemorate loss, embrace greater timelines of transformation, and encourages us to celebrate the immortality of our shared spirit.
Erratic /Ə’radik/
1. noun: a rock that travels great distances over time, by glacier or other natural forces
2. adj; unpredictable
3. root Latin: errāre: to wander
Artist Statement - "I join themes of displacement with transformation using unexpected examples and materials provided by our planet, and remain curious about what it means to simply be a part of this earth. The materials and color I use in my work ask us to evaluate the worn-down trails of accepted facts to a deeper evaluation of purpose. I hope viewers can embrace a giddy approach to the idea that defied expectations can expand our ways of thinking and be a gift to all."
Artist Bio - Leah Cupino might be something of an erratic herself. She’s lived on volcanoes, farmland, cement jungles, forests, beaches, and now the rocky mountainsides of the US and abroad. She is fixated on the transformational forces and concepts that shape place, movement and mindset.
Exhibiting on both North American coastlines and in Mexico City, her creative mind has expanded into roles in professorships, residencies, curation and the founding of a non-profits art center. Now focused on her own creative work, she’ll be found in her studio in Southwest Montana.
This exhibition is organized by the Carbon County Arts Guild & Depot Gallery which receives additional support from coal tax placed into Montana's Cultural and Aesthetic Projects Trust Fund.
The Carbon County Arts Guild & Depot Gallery provides access to art, supports artistic expression, and encourages creative experiences for the enrichment of our communities.
