To celebrate the 2023 Art in the Beartooths, we chatted with our Quick Finish artists to get some insight into their backgrounds and creative processes. Here's what Tom Wolfe had to say about his art...
Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I was born in Livingston, Mt., and currently reside in Nye, Mt., both in the shadow of The Beartooth Mountains. In my travels I never found a place I loved more, so here I am, content to paint the scenes and stories that surround me.
Who are your main artistic influences?
My parents, my mentor Hall Diteman of Billings, MT, and my wife.
Tell us about your favorite medium
I started with and still enjoy painting in watercolor but these days I work mostly in oil.
When is your favorite time of day to create?
I prefer mornings when everything is fresh but find myself equally content to work as long as the light is good.
Does art help you in other areas of your life?
In everything. There is a mindset in the creative process that feels good to me and I try to apply it in all that I do.
